India's Union Budget
Assocham rallies for farmers
A huge focus on the rural economy with a commitment to doubling farmers’ incomes by 2022 was among the most important features of this year’s budget, said the Assocham president.
“The government has rightly realised that a sustainable and equitable growth model cannot be built as long as the rural economy is in distress,” said Sunil Kanoria (pictured).
“With successive monsoon failure, the farm sector was in distress and the finance minister… has tilted the balance in favour of the agriculture sector. This would certainly yield dividends for the entire economy and provide a solid foundation for a robust economy.”
"All in all, [finance minister Arun] Jaitley’s budget is a balanced budget,” he added.
